Estimates, not guarantees

Three things in particular change regularly and are outside our control:

• Toll prices increase annually, typically in March following SANRAL's tariff announcement. We update our toll data after each increase, but there will always be a window where our figures lag behind the published tariffs.
• Fuel prices are adjusted by the DMRE on the first Wednesday of each month. Our fuel data is updated shortly after, but prices at individual stations can differ from the regulated pump price by a few cents per litre.
• Routes are currently estimated using straight-line distance with a road correction factor. Actual road distances vary, particularly on routes through mountain passes or areas with limited road options.

Limitation of liability

tripcost.co.za and its owner (Greg) are not liable for:

• Any difference between the estimated trip cost and the actual cost you incur.
• Financial decisions made on the basis of our estimates.
• Missed toll plazas, incorrect route choices, or navigation errors.
• Traffic delays, road closures, or accidents — these are outside our scope entirely.
• Any costs incurred at a lekker stop at a Total padstal, a farm stall on the R62, or a scenic detour to Clarens.
• Vehicle breakdowns, tyre changes, or any mechanical incidents on the road.
• Data outages, calculation errors caused by stale data, or technical failures of this website.

To the maximum extent permitted by South African law, our liability is limited to the amount you paid to use this service — which is zero, because it's free.

Affiliate disclosure

Affiliate relationships do not influence our cost calculations, data sourcing, or editorial content. We won't recommend a provider just because they pay us — if anything, we're extra careful to recommend providers we'd actually use ourselves.

Intellectual property

The content on tripcost.co.za — including text, calculations, route guides, and the tripcost wordmark — belongs to tripcost.co.za. You may link to our pages freely. You may not reproduce our content wholesale on other websites without permission.

Toll and fuel price data is sourced from public SANRAL, DMRE, and operator publications. That underlying data is not our intellectual property.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Any disputes arising from your use of tripcost.co.za will be subject to the jurisdiction of the South African courts.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top of this page will change when we do. Continued use of tripcost.co.za after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
